This handout will show you how to login to the course, navigate through the content, and explain the lesson interactions available to you.

This checklist can help you select which lessons you would like to complete. Your facilitator may also use this checklist to recommend lessons, based on your evaluation results .

Technology

The technical requirements for accessing the online training course includes:

A web browser (Google Chrome is recommended).
A laptop or desktop computer should be used to access the course. Accessing the training from a smartphone or tablet is not recommended.
Make sure you are using a reliable internet connection.
Use a mouse and keyboard to navigate through the course.
The training course may not work with touchscreen devices.

Welcome to Workplace Essentials Training! You have been invited by your organization to participate in the Workplace Essentials Training online course as part of the Skills for Success: Validation Study research project. Before accessing the training, you will have completed the following:

1. Signed the project Consent Form
2. Completed the Survey
3. Completed the Workplace Essentials Evaluation
4. Received your evaluation results from your Facilitator

What happens now?

Review your Workplace Essentials Evaluation Results!

Your Facilitator will review your Workplace Essentials Evaluation results with you and help to inform you of which components of the Workplace Essentials Training to complete.
Participating in the Workplace Essentials Training course will provide you access to lessons geared towed building skills in the areas of reading, numeracy, writing, and digital.
You will learn how to use these skills within the context of work, while improving teamwork, safety, and communication in the workplace.
Your organization will set up your access to the online course.
Appreciation gift cards will be provided as a thank you for your participation in the training. The gift card will be sent to the email address you provided on your signed consent form.
By participating in the training, you will contribute valuable data to national research.

What to Expect

Your Facilitator will enroll you in Workplace Essentials Training course hosted on D2L Brightspace.
Once registered, you will receive an email notification, with your username and password to log-in and activate your enrollment in the course.
Your Facilitator will also provide you with recommendations on which lessons to complete .

About the Lessons

The lessons focus on building 4 key skill areas: reading, numeracy, writing, and digital.
There are 3 units focused on common workplace competencies: communication, teamwork, and safety.
Each lesson is intended to take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Designed within the context of work, each lesson contains 5 key sections: an Introduction, Work Words, Basics, On the Job, and Review.
Throughout the lessons are links to a suite of static supplemental resources, called Strategies for Success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some participants in the study have access to the online training. Why don’t I?

All participants may have access to the training at the end of the project. To support the research, there are varying levels of participation and eligibility criteria for training participation. To request training access, contact sfs@bowvalleycollege.ca

As a participant, I am to receive gift cards for participation. How is this received?

Appreciation gift cards are issued to participants as a thank you for their time and contributions. Gift cards are sent to the email address provided on the consent form, at the completion of all piloting activities.

What languages is the training offered in?

The evaluation is available in English and French. To select the language of this website, use the toggle button at the top of the page.

How much do I need to participate in the training course if I have access?

The training is to benefit you and improve your Skills for Success. A gift card of appreciation is provided to eligible training participants who actively engage with the training platform, and complete lessons as recommended by their facilitator. Contact your facilitator with questions regarding your training plan.

What do I do if I’m having issues accessing the course?

If you are having issues logging in, you can reset your password with the ‘Forgot your password?’ button on the login page. An email will be sent to reset your password.
